July 2010: Cuban, Level V (Cuban Casino – third month)

Regular Cuban basic, “Curved belt shape”:
W does normal salsa front & back basic & M mirrors it (M steps back on 1 w/ L, forward w/ R on2, forward w/ L on3, forward w/ R on5, & back on 6 & 7). M  follows a curve a little to his L &  W follows a curve a little to his R (Eric & Jesse showed this w/ belts on the floor)

Dancing with the Force

Looks like “air leading”. Learn to perform all the below routines first by traditional leading and then without touching. For leading “with the force” lead the first move as a “Vacilala” instead of an “Hecho” and then execute the rest of the pattern without touching until starting the Dile Que No.

Note: The “Pull-In” right before the Dile Que No happens automatically if M skips his Deshecho on5-7 and instead does a cumbia basic.

Vacilala con engaño (“Engañar” means to fool, to deceive, to trick. Engaño is the noun form.)

1. Hecho/Vacilala with M Deshecho on5-7

2. W Deshecho and M Deshecho

3. Repeat above one or more times (only one suggested)

4. W Deshecho and Pull-In

5. Dile Que No

Vacilala con engaño con exhibela engaño

1. Hecho/Vacilala with M Deshecho on5-7

2. W Deshecho and M Deshecho (repeating)

3. W Deshecho and Pull-In

4. Now instead of doing Dile Que No, do Exhibela

5. Repeat Exhibela one or more times (only one suggested)

6. Dile Que No

Even more engaño

When doing Exhibela, M can do Deshecho on 5-7 to start repeating W’s & M’s Deshechos:

1. Hecho/Vacilala with M Deshecho on5-7

2. W Deshecho and M Deshecho (repeating)

3. W Deshecho and Pull-In

4. Now instead of doing Dile Que No, do Exhibela

5. Repeat above one or more times, and on final Exhibela, do M Deshecho on5-7

6. W Deshecho and M Deshecho (repeating)

7. W Deshecho and Pull-In

8. Dile Que No (or Exhibela again and can repeat steps 5-8 or better just one or two Exhibelas total and Dile Que No)

Starting dance
Can also start with cumbia basics apart, and M does a Deshecho on 5-7 (or M simply steps forward and to left so his right shoulder comes toward her as if to push her shoulders back into her windup position for doing a W Deshecho) to start repeating W’s & M’s Deshechos.

Super Deshecho:
Like a regular Deshecho, but W continues turning almost ½ L on each subsequent step (5,6,7,1,2,3). On some 3, M & W should be positioned like 3 in a Deschecho & M can do a pull-in on 5-7. Each step is a little less than ½ L so that woman traces out a clockwise cirlce on floor, instead of traveling down a line.

M’s RT Deshecho (named “Ronde” in Miami style)
On 5-7, M does a RT instead of a LT. M’s footwork is sort of a side step w/ R foot (away from W), a rotating back step w/ L foot , then a rotating side step w/ R foot. The idea is to keep moving along the circle you are making with M.

Float step

In place of a M’s Deshecho, but M doesn’t turn. He ends up in the same position on7 as if he did a M deshecho or an hecho/vacilala and preps for a W deshecho right after.

Casate variation

Do W’s Deshecho (R-R) on 1-3, then start W walking around w/ M on 5-7. Can interlock L-R arms. Exit by doing a pull-in on some 5-7.

Rueda de Casino moves:

Dame Con Una
Dame, but clap hands on 7

Foto

Freeze on 7 (stepping to open up towards center of circle) & resume Cuban basic on 3.
