JULY SALSA DANCE CLASSES IN BOULDER

Salsaville Dance Studios of Boulder, Colorado will be offering two salsa dance courses plus a brand new two-week salsa music workshop starting July 7th.

  • Salsa Music Workshop: Understand the Music We Dance To, Hear the Beat and Find the One. Learn more about the music we all love, while improving your timing and musicality. We will learn the basic rhythmic patterns that each of the most important salsa instruments play, and understand how they fit into and contribute to the overall sound of salsa. We will hear a complete salsa song, and isolate and listen to each individual instrument. Then, using sound mixing software, we will combine each instrument to make that all familiar and wonderful salsa sound. In the end, you will have a much better idea of what exactly you are listening to every time you're out there on the dance floor moving your body.
    This class is intended for people who have had at least some exposure to salsa. It will be useful for everyone from near-beginners to dedicated salseros. This class will change the way you hear and think about salsa music forever. Click here for more info about this upcoming class.

  • Level IV - Intermediate Level Salsa Dancing. The first of the upper end classes. In this class we will learn more of the most often used moves in the clubs, technique for leading and following, and several new and fancy combinations.

  • Cuban V - Cuban Casino Dancing Advanced-Intermediate. This class is intended for people who already know the fundamentals of Casino. Casino is very different from other salsa styles, and is much more circular in nature and often more playful. In this class we will continue with more complex Casino style turn patterns, and continue to explore concepts, feeling, etc. of what makes dancing Cuban style different than the other styles. We will also continue to learn Rueda de Casino, spending about one third of our time doing the group circle dance while passing partners.

REGISTRATION

  • The classes will progress from week to week.
  • You can pay in person at the first class (on a space available basis), but all prices are $5 more than listed below.
  • Any class is subject to cancellation if less than 12 people register. However, this has occured only two times in the last ten years.

Elite Dance Academy: 3005 Sterling Circle, Suite 100 Boulder, CO -- head east away from Boulder on Valmont. Less than a mile past Foothills (and just before 55th St), turn left onto Sterling Circle. Building is on the left.


What do all of these different "Levels" mean, and what level is appropriate for me?

Basic level salsa classes
Salsa, Level I – Introduction to Salsa
Salsa, Level II – Advanced-Beginner
Salsa, Level III – Intro to Intermediate Level
     – each class normally taken once before advancing to the next level

Higher level salsa classes
Salsa, Level IV – Intermediate
Salsa, Level V – Advanced-Intermediate
Salsa, Level VI – Advanced
     – each class to be taken multiple times before advancing to next level
     – material is always unique in successive repetitions of these classes

For Cuban Salsa classes
Cuban Salsa, Level IV: Cuban Casino Fundamentals (to be taken after completing at least Salsa, Level I & II, and preferably Level III.)
Cuban Salsa, Level V: Cuban Casino, Advanced-Intermediate
Cuban Salsa, Level VI: Cuban Casino, Advanced

What if I can't make all four sessions due to scheduling problems?

If you can make at least three of the four sessions, I recommend signing up, as you will still be able to learn pretty much everything taught in the class.
If you can make only one or two of the sessions, please contact me first to see if it makes sense for you to join the class. ($15 to drop in on a class.)

What if I don't have a dance partner?

No problem! You can sign up as a couple or as an individual. In fact, most people sign up as individuals.
During the class we constantly rotate partners, so you will be dancing with everybody.

What if I am a not quite up to the level of the class or I'm not sure if I am at the level of the class?

In this case, please contact me, and we can try to determine what class is best for you.
Also, you could take a "catch-up private lesson" to quickly bring you up to the level of the class that you would like to take.

What should I wear to class?

Comfortable clothing and slick bottom soled shoes. A shoe with a slick bottom is a shoe that doesn't stick hard on a wooden floor -- avoid new sneakers or hiking boots! Any leather soled shoe will work just fine.
