June 2010: Level IV (Intermediate)
Week 1 Pattern:
1: XB open to open (L-R & R-L)
2: copa wrap to copa WLT, releasing R-L & taking L-R over W’s head
3: take R-L again & XB:WRT, taking both L-R & R-L over W’s head
4: Copa, wrapping L-R over W’s head & putting R-L on W's R shoulder,
to Copa:WLT, releasing R-L
5: take R-L again & XB:WRT to W’s RT hammerlock, taking L-R over
W’s head & keeping R-L down low for the hammerlock
6: “Unwind Copa”, taking R-L out of hammerlock & taking L-R
over W’s head (both R-L & L-R end up in front of W) to Copa:WLT w/
MRT gear turn, w/ M stepping back into slot as he is turning
7: W’s Hcomb w/ R-L to XB:WLT to a sort of sweetheart wrap, keeping R-L
on W’s R shoulder & bringing L-R up over W’s head into a sort
of wrap.
8: Into sweetheart (without much W rotation to left) then WRT to unwrap sweetheart
to W’s RT hammerlock. But hands do the a “snake” or
“thread the needle”: holding L-R high, & holding R-L low for
the hammerlock; On1, bring L-R down into normal wrap. On2, bring R-L over
W’s head into normal wrap. On3, bring L-R high.
9: “Unwind Copa”, taking R-L out of hammerlock & taking L-R
over W’s head (both R-L & L-R end up in front of W) to Copa:WLT,
taking both R-L & L-R over W’s head.
10: XB:WRT back to open
Optional variation of 4: W keep her hand on her shoulder & M catches it
& does a sweetheart
Week 2 Pattern:
1: XB open to open (L-R & R-L)
2: copa wrap to copa WLT, releasing R-L & taking L-R over W’s head
3: take R-L again (by holding M's R hand high in front of W) & XB WRT,
taking both L-R & R-L over W’s head
4: Copa, taking L-R over W's head & putting R-L on W's R shoulder, to Copa
WLT, releasing R-L
5: take R-L again & XB WRT to W’s RT hammerlock, taking L-R over
W’s head & keeping R-L down low for the hammerlock
6: "Unwind Copa", taking R-L out of hammerlock & taking L-R over
W’s head (both R-L & L-R end up in front of W) to Copa WLT, taking
both R-L & L-R over W’s head. .
7: XB WRT back to open
8: Basic
9: Basic
10: XB open to R-R
11: WRT R-R
12: 1/2 MRT R-R to WRT R-R (can lead this turn by M looking over his R
shoulder)
13: Basket; On1: open break M steps L (away from W just outside slot); on2 M
pulls W down slot w/ R-R, pulling a little to the outside to encourage her not
to turn, M steps towards W’s R along side of the slot; on3 M rotates ½ R
to face back of W & put his L hand on front of her L shoulder; on5 W front
crosses & M back crosses; on6, M pulls W back along slot & M rotates ¼
R & steps to L along side of slot; on7, M rotates ¼ & front crosses to
be in front of W
14: W’s R-R hcomb, to XB WLT (taking L-L) to sweetheart
15: W’s sweethheart pivot to L & then WRT to unwind L-L (can also try
2WRT)
16: M’s L-L hcomb to XB
Week 3 Pattern:
1: XB WLT to sweetheart, starting with R-L & picking up
L-R about 6
2: Sweetheart turn to L, then WRT to unwind, talking both hands over W’s
head
3: Basket (similar to 2nd copa from last week), pulling more w/ L-R, taking L-R
over W's head & putting R-L on W's R shoulder, & completing the basket
into open position
4: W’s hcomb to XB WRT. For the hcomb, M puts his R arm over W’s
head, with W’s L arm crossing in front of her chest. M’s R hand is
on W’s R shoulder. For XB WRT, keep R-L on W’s R shoulder, &
take L-R over W’s head & out straight to M’s L. R-L ends tucked
under W’s R armpit.
5: XB WLT to sweetheart, leading w/ R-L & releasing L-R. W has a chance to
lightly slap M’s face w/ her free R hand on 3. Optional pinch by M before
(on about 1) in order to motivate the slap.
6: Sweetheart turn to L, then unwind with WRT w/ R-L
For gear turns, M turns a little later & more leisurely than the W. Wait
until W is even w/ M to start M’s turn. With the R-L & L-R hand
combination we are using, can make contact first w/ L-R, then roll arms
together, back, and then arms all the way to R-L. Other hand combinations that
work for gear turns: L-R, R-L, L-L/R-R.
Week 4 Stuff:
Surprise-Reach-In Sweetheart, 2nd version:
From R-R, lead XB WLT to sweetheart. About 6, toss W’s R hand up a little
& catch inside W’s R elbow w/ back of M’s R wrist. Lead
sweetheart turn to L & then freespin WRT with that wrist.
Pattern:
1: From open (R-L, L-R), lead XB WRT (ends in RT Twister)
2: Basket (similar to 2nd copa from week 2), pulling more w/ L-R, taking L-R
over W's head & putting R-L on W's R shoulder, & completing the basket
into open position. Lower hands on 5. (ends in open position)
3: W's hcomb to XB WRT. For the hcomb, M puts his R arm over W's head, with W's
L arm crossing in front of her chest. M's R hand is on W's R shoulder. For XB
WRT, keep R-L on W's R shoulder, & take L-R over W's head & out
straight to M's L. R-L ends tucked under W's R armpit. (ends in RT Twister)
4: Toss W’s R arm by lifting on her tricep on 1, catching it on 3 w/
M’s L hand. M’s L arm goes under W’s L arm & hand is
raised above W’s arm for the catch. (ends in LT Twister)
5: XB WRT, w/ M following her down slot & turning ¼ R so they are
side-by-side in wrap position.
6: Basket, similar to 2 above (ends in LT Twister)
7: 2WRT (ends in RT Twister)
8: Repeat 4 (ends in LT Twister)
9: XB WRT to open
Note “RT Twister” = hand position you get from open when one person
does a full R turn, “LT Twister” = hand position you get from open
when one person does a full L turn.
Exercise:
From open position, alternate both types of head combs with both hands.
